How to Neglect a Blog

My offering for the perfect recipe on how to neglect your blog for weeks at a time:

Base ingredients

  • 1 New iMac
  • 1 Catastrophic hard drive failure
  • 1 Dead cat
  • 1 Contract assignment for a local corporation
  • 3 New client projects

Optional, but recommended for extra seasoning add:

  • Not wanting to rant about losing the election on the company blog (just a pinch)
  • Assorted holiday obligations
  • 1 New season of the Simpsons
  • 1 case of Sierra Nevada Celebration (thanks Dave)

Start this off with the arrival of a new 20in iMac. Ahead of the arrival, be sure to rabidly check the FedEx tracking status as the box makes its way from Shanghai, to Anchorage and on to your doorstep. Jump around in circles a few times as you open the box. Try not to pass out. Don't back up your work on the old machine... I mean, why bother, right? Mix in a heaping pile catastrophic hard drive failure on your old Mac. For additional tragic irony, be sure to do this just as you are attempting to transfer files to the shiny new machine.

Freak out.

Later you will have to try not to laugh/cuss/cry at the quote of $1800-$2600 to recover the 5 months of work you just lost.

For good measure, freak out some more.

Griffon, as he was usually found around the house.

Add to the mix the passing of Griffon, the biggest, most awesome cat ever and a great friend.

Toss this all together with the new client work and the contract assignment, stir in whatever optional ingredients you've got, and allow to simmer.

Enjoy!
